Strategic Plan

In 1997, the board of trustees of Invest completed a five-year strategic plan to help guide the activities of the organization. The plan has four major foci - helping neighborhoods develop leadership skills, promoting neighborhood collaboration, resource development, and building strong ties between neighborhoods and city government.

The first of the goals was addressed by the compilation of a Leadership Manual to help community activists conduct the business of their neighborhood councils. The youth component of the plan has been terminated due to lack of ongoing funding.

The manual also fills some of the goals of the collaboartion initiative, as does this web site. We also are initiating regular meetings of neighborhood leaders.

We continue to provide financial resources to communities through our administration of the city's NSP program. In early 2004, we contracted with the City to administer the Neighborhood Business District program. We worked to maximize the annual payout from the Neighborhood Fund, and, most importantly, established an endowment to support the Merit Grant Program. We are aggressively seeking contributions for the endowment.

In 2003, we were able to accomplish another of our goals when we partnered with the City to hold the Neighborhood Summit, an all-day gathering of neighborhood leaders meeting with city leaders and learning new skills through seminars. The second was held in January 2004, and planning is underway to keep this an annual event.
